Author Interview
How many books have you written?
I have written two full-length novels to date and am currently working on Book 3 in my time travel series that has yet to be titled. I have been writing literally all my life. In addition, I am a graphic artist, which allows me to design my own book covers.
What inspired you to write your books?
They say the most effective writers write about what they know. THE LINCOLN PENNY and THE LOVER’S EYE breathe life into a fascinating period in American history, the Civil War, because I have a passion for exploring the intricate details of the past and, what’s more, lived it myself.
As an avid Civil War reenactor, the events I have participated in have given me a rare glimpse of what was. I know what it’s like to awaken at the crack of dawn to a bugle’s razor-sharp call to Reveille or recoil from the powerful blast of cannon fire. I have walked among Gothic archways in massive brick fortifications and danced the Virginia Reel at a soiree. I have camped amid a sea of white canvas in a simple A-tent on a barren hillside dotted with rifle stacks and crackling campfires. Sometimes it feels so real you think you are really there.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know how unusual it is, but I would say you can find me most mornings with my coffee at my laptop in an overstuffed pink rocker recliner by the window in our guest room. It is a great way to start the day, quiet and cozy.
What authors or books have influenced you?
Off the top of my head, the classic H.G. Wells “The Time Machine” and modern-day Diana Gabaldon “Outlander” Series have been inspiring reads. For American history, I am also captivated by two remarkable writers, Michael Shaara and Jeff Shaara and their Civil War Trilogy. Of course, there are so many more.
What's next for you as a writer?
Readers often tell me they can’t wait to find out what happens next and that keeps me writing and improving every day. I may be able to create an intriguing story and publish a great book, but it is ultimately the reader that gives it life. So, a huge thank you to all my readers!
